Service 03 · Overseas Surgery Recovery

Overseas Surgery Recovery planned before you fly.

Your surgery is overseas, but your recovery happens back home. Before you fly, you meet a Baseline Medical clinician to review your planned procedure and set up your recovery plan. Once you are back in Australia, a clinician runs that plan with you by video and phone and, with your consent, keeps your GP and surgeon in the loop.

Recovery concerns

Your surgery may happen overseas. Your recovery happens at home.

Most people book a procedure abroad and only think about recovery on the flight back. By then, the surgical team is on the other side of the world.

  • No local follow-up arranged before flying out
  • Questions about healing progress once home
  • Swelling or firmness that has not settled as expected
  • Uncertainty about what needs review and what does not
  • No clear plan for the weeks after you land
  • Difficulty reaching the team that performed the surgery

Baseline Medical puts structure around that period, ideally starting before you leave Australia.

Please note. Our treating practitioners will assess your individual circumstances during your initial consultation and guide your recovery plan based on their findings. An assessment does not diagnose a condition or guarantee a particular outcome.

The protocol

The overseas recovery pathway.

Who this is for

People having cosmetic surgery overseas who want a recovery plan in place before they travel, and structured monitoring once they are home in Australia.

  • Pre-operative consultation before you fly
  • A recovery plan set up ahead of your procedure
  • Scheduled clinician check-ins once you are back in Australia
  • Recovery monitoring and ongoing review
  • Treatment options discussed once you are back in Australia, if deemed medically appropriate
What's included

A recovery plan that starts before you travel.

Pre-operative planning consultation

Before you fly, a clinician reviews your planned procedure, sets up your recovery plan and explains what happens when you return home.

Recovery monitoring plan

Your monitoring plan is set up and reviewed by a clinician, delivered by video or phone. Telehealth complements your in-person care. It does not replace a hands-on assessment.

Scheduled check-ins once you land

Recovery reviews with a clinician at clear check-in points, by real-time video or phone, throughout your recovery period.

Care coordination at home

With your consent, we share updates with your local GP, surgeon and other treating practitioners so everyone stays informed.

Reach your clinician between reviews

Have a recovery question between visits? Message your clinician for guidance. They can advise whether it needs further review.

Local-care coordination

If hands-on care is needed, we help you find and brief a local provider so your monitoring stays consistent.

Who it's for

Who this is right for.

Planning surgery overseas

Australians booked for a cosmetic procedure abroad who want a recovery plan in place before they travel.

Home from overseas surgery

Australians who have already returned from a procedure abroad with recovery still in progress.

Remote and regional patients

Patients a long way from their surgeon or from local follow-up, who still want structured monitoring by video and phone.

Interstate patients

For anyone whose surgeon is in another state and who cannot easily attend in-person reviews.

How your care runs

Your overseas surgery recovery runs in clear stages.

1 Before you fly

Phase 01

Pre-operative appointment

A real-time video or phone consultation in Australia. A clinician reviews your planned procedure, establishes your recovery plan and explains what happens when you return home.

2 While you are away

Phase 02

Travel and surgery overseas

Your procedure is performed by your overseas surgical team. Your Baseline recovery plan is already in place for when you land.

3 Back in Australia

Phase 03

Return home and reassessment

A clinical review once you are home, looking at how your recovery is tracking and what may need attention. Available to any patient recovering away from their surgeon, including interstate and regional patients.

4 Throughout recovery

Phase 04

Structured recovery monitoring

Scheduled reviews by video or phone at clear check-in points, between-visit messaging, and documented progress. With your consent, a written summary goes to your local GP. Timeframes vary based on individual assessment.

What changes

Your recovery plan is in place before you board.

01

Recovery planned in advance

A clinician reviews your planned procedure and sets up your recovery plan before you leave Australia, rather than after something has gone wrong.

02

Continuity across the journey

One clinician across the whole pathway: before you travel, and through the weeks after you return.

03

Direct contact

Direct messaging with your clinician between reviews for recovery questions.

04

Documented reviews

Every check-in written down for your records and your local team.

05

Local-care coordination

If hands-on care is needed, we help you find and brief a local provider near you.

Common questions.

Overseas Surgery Recovery

Before you fly, wherever possible. Your pre-operative appointment lets a clinician review your planned procedure and set up your recovery plan while you are still in Australia. If you have already had your surgery and returned home, we can still begin at any point in your recovery.

No. Baseline Medical clinicians provide care to patients who are physically in Australia. Your pre-operative appointment happens before you travel, and your recovery monitoring begins once you are back home.

Sometimes. Telehealth is not suitable for every recovery concern, for example where an area needs hands-on review. Our treating practitioners will assess your individual circumstances during your initial consultation and guide your care based on their findings, including arranging a local in-person review where needed.

We run scheduled recovery reviews with a clinician over time, rather than a single video visit. The structure means your questions reach a clinician at clear points through recovery. Individual results vary based on your circumstances, and monitoring does not guarantee a particular outcome.

Anywhere. Our consultations run by video and phone, so you can be monitored from any state. If a hands-on assessment is needed, your clinician will help you arrange a local in-person review.

A phone or computer with a camera, and a quiet, private spot. We send the link beforehand and talk you through it if it is your first time. Where video is not practical, consultations can run by phone.

Yes, with your consent. We can share updates with your GP or other treating practitioners, so your care stays joined up while you recover at home.
